Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (Sticky Fingers). This always reminds me of the movie “Blow”. The sax playing in this by Bobby Keys is just incredible. The story goes that when the song was finished, Mick Taylor wanted to keep playing. Everyone thought the song was over, but as he played, they all began picking up their instruments and joined in…it was recorded and finalized in one take the way it sits. That’s how music should be, but they don’t record like that now, as a group, and I think that’s where music misses the mark so much these days. You can’t beat the collaboration of many!

Written for his wife, Bianca to help with the problems in Nicaragua where she was born. It wasn’t released until Emotional Rescue, which was 2 years after her divorce with Mick. The inequalities, violence and poverty that Mick witnessed when he visited Nicaragua stayed with him and he wrote about here. This song created a lot of controversy with many thinking Mick was “sneering and making fun” of the war there; he wasn’t. It was a serious song to bring attention to all the problems at the time; the Nicaraguan war, and the war in Angola as Castro sent Cuban troops to intervene. Big politics in this one!
