This was the late 80’s and I had gone to work in one of many restaurants my family running the counter when I was 12, so I had cash and a bank account all of my own. I also worked the desk at one of the many crappy little motels my family owned since I was 13. My Kansas DL was real, even if I was supposed to only use it while going to and from the farm most cops didn’t care so long as I gave the right answers in front of the ones I wasn’t related to and I was related by blood or marriage to a lot of them.
