Why? Raccoons have no interest in pleasing us the way dogs do. Even a wolf, dingo or jackal if raised from a tiny pup, seeks to please its owner. Cats, less so but it’s obvious they enjoy our company and love a warm house with creature comforts. Raccoons are indifferent to such comforts. Not that they don’t enjoy lazing about but they are active animals that don’t mind rain or snow.

With their rather dexterous paws, there’s little they can’t tear apart, open or mess up – and they will! They do NOT train well so forget about disciplining one. It won’t understand why and will bite you if you attempt to. They’re very strong-willed and stubborn! If they were kept as outdoor pets, they’d have to be caged or they’d simply wander off foraging for their foods as well as exploring out of curiosity although they’d return off and on before they’d likely leave for good if male, and if female, to raise a family.
