Airbending was passive, where you would tire your opponent out by shooting gusts of air and dodge their attacks. Airbending emphasized on speed and evasion, and is more dynamic because it is more creative. The point is, in Avatar the Last Airbender every bending had a distinct style and pose. Which is fine for Airbending, because Aang mostly used it for non-violence purposes, but when you make water bending offensive that’s when I get tired.
But in Legend of Korra, all the bendings turned into offense all the time. The point is, even though Season 1 wasn’t the best, the feel of the show was at least consistent. The filler episodes were mostly great, and that’s what makes avatar the last airbender stand out. Most of the episodes in Korra I do not care about, and the characters did not retain a level of consistency. The immersive gameplay that the others hint at is the beginning of the answer, but its not the whole story.
