I left nursing 5 years ago as I love driving my school bus empty shirt I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to. Immigration is not the problem. My own experience was this: The staffing is appropriate so the decision-makers stretch it a little further. It stretches but doesn’t break. So they stretch it a little more and the struggle increases but still it doesn’t snap. So they stretch it until it is frayed and close to breaking point and rely entirely upon the fact that staff will sacrifice their own family time and mental health and god knows what else to ensure that the wheels keep turning.

That’s not the fault of immigration, I love driving my school bus empty shirt that’s the fault of a government that doesn’t know how to spend and refuses to look at the future. I have been a nurse in the uk NHS for 20 years and I can say that things have never been this bad- workloads have vastly increased, less and less staff as people leave, retire or long term sick and not replaced. Less resources, less money- having to find efficiency savings all the time. More and more paperwork, bureaucracy and training taking up what little time we have. Good, compassionate nurses are stressed beyond belief because they are unable to provide the level of care they want- everything is half a job, in a rush, meet the next target! Certainly no Quality
