If you’re not wealthy I encourage you to consider some of Baltimore’s other less well-known neighborhoods that are more down to earth price-wise. For every affluent neighborhood, there is usually one or more nearby neighborhoods that are on their way up and have a more diverse population that is perhaps a more authentic Baltimore.

There are a few somewhat more affluent neighborhoods in SW: Union Square, Hunting Ridge, Ten Hills. But even they are bargains compared to similar neighborhoods in North or SE Baltimore. Most of SW Baltimore is definitely working class. You can purchase a solid home in most SW neighborhoods for well under $100,00. Rents are ridiculously high everywhere in Baltimore but purchase prices are often bargains. Baltimore. Gwynns Falls is not at all a flashy neighborhood and you wouldn’t mistake it for Colonial Williamsburg but in my six years here I have found it to be a good place to live.
